The building didn't move. Neither did the sign.
South Shore Eye Associates has run out of the same red clapboard storefront on Depot Street since 1981. It isn't a satellite of somewhere bigger, and it was never bought out by a regional chain that kept the address and changed everything behind the door. It's the same practice, in the same spot, under a sign somebody painted by hand a long time ago.
The building
Red clapboard, white trim, and a sign nobody replaced.
The window display changes with the season. Frames come and go behind the glass. The building underneath, and the navy sign with the two lens shaped O's above it, hasn't needed updating in longer than most of our patients have been our patients.
Why independent matters
A chain optical rotates providers. This office doesn't.
At a lot of larger practices, you're not booked with a person, you're booked with a slot, and whoever fills that slot changes from year to year. Every visit starts the same way: re-explaining your history from the beginning, the old prescription, the family history, the contact lens brand that finally worked after three others didn't.
That isn't how a single-location, independently owned practice works. There's no district manager reassigning who sees you next. It's one office, and it stays one office, which means less time spent re-explaining and more time spent actually looking.

Tue to Fri from 10am, Sat 9am to 2pm
New patients are welcome, this year and every year after it.
Tuesday through Friday from 10, and Saturday mornings 9 to 2, when almost nobody else nearby opens.
